Three’s a Charm

April 3, 2008

ATLANTA (April 9, 2008) – Everyone knows good things come in threes, and for SunTrust Bank, Inc., three’s a charm as the company is proud to be back for a third consecutive year as Official Bank of the Snap-On Stars of Karting presented by the Indy Racing League.

The young, up-and-coming future racing stars of the world took to the track for a new season in Ocala, Fla., last weekend (April 4-6) in the Ocala Grand Prix East Stars of Karting East Coast doubleheader. And, once again, SunTrust is on board as not only a provider of financial services to competitors and their families, but counsel to the young competitors in the areas of financial education, sponsorship activities, and how to conduct themselves on the racetrack in the hopes of rising through the racing ranks to the highest levels of motorsports worldwide.

“SunTrust long has been known as the ‘Official Bank of Motorsports’ as we have developed and maintained partnerships within such elite racing venues as the Daytona International Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and Richmond International Raceway, exciting motorsports properties such as the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and the SunTrust Moto-ST Series, and our title sponsorship of the SunTrust Indy Challenge in the IRL IndyCar Series,” said Craig Kelly, Corporate Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, SunTrust Bank, Inc. “Along those lines, we are just as committed and determined to support the future racers of the world by our ongoing commitment to youth racing and the Snap-On Stars of Karting series.”

As part of its Stars of Karting partnership, SunTrust will award the third annual SunTrust Youth Racing Scholarship at season’s end to further the career of a series competitor. Last December, 15-year-old Hayden Duerson of St. Petersburg, Fla., was the recipient of the second annual SunTrust Youth Racing Scholarship, which facilitated his involvement in the prestigious Skip Barber Karting Shootout at Sebring, Fla., in January.

After this weekend’s season-opening doubleheader in Ocala, the Stars of Karting schedule takes the series to Tooele, Utah (April 25-27), New Castle, Ind. (May 30 to June 1), Shawano, Wis. (July 11-13), Kent, Wash. (Aug. 22-24), Las Vegas (Oct. 10-12), and Orlando (Dec. 11).

In addition to sponsoring the Snap-On Stars of Karting Series, SunTrust’s motorsports portfolio also includes team sponsorship of the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac in the Rolex Series, Official Bank status of the Grand American Road Racing Association, as well as the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and Richmond (Va.) International Raceway; title sponsorship of the IRL IndyCar Series race at Richmond, the SunTrust Indy Challenge; sponsor of the ARCA RE/MAX Series Rookie of the Year award, and title sponsor of the SunTrust MOTO-ST motorcycle racing series.
