2026 Detroit Grand Prix Post Race Report

Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing took on the hometown of Cadillac Racing, as the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship took to the streets of Detroit for a 100-minute street fight. With a condensed weekend schedule, the Cadillac WTR team came to Detroit ready to capitalize on previous success around the 1.645-mile street circuit to bring home a solid result for Cadillac Racing in the shadows of the GM Renaissance Center. At the fall of the checkered flag, the No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R GTP led the charge for the team to collect a third-place finish, their third in three years at Detroit, and a 1-3 finish for Cadillac Racing with Cadillac Whelen taking the top step.

In Friday’s qualifying, Filipe Albuquerque was poised for a prime starting position before a red flag interrupted their flyer lap to start from seventh for Saturday’s sprint race in the No. 10 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R GTP. As the green flag flew, Albuquerque immediately got to work on gaining positions before an early caution. On the restart, light contact bumped Albuquerque back, but this would not deter the No. 10 Cadillac WTR team from redemption. Albuquerque put his head down and managed to make his way up to fourth position before pitting. Just shy of the halfway mark, Ricky Taylor took over with full fuel to push to the end. With the overcut strategy, Taylor came out on track in fourth, keen to hunt down a spot on the podium. With less than 30-minutes to go, Taylor put his head down, working to carefully manage his tires and energy allotment. As the race came to the final 20 minutes, the field saw a full-course yellow that brought all GTP competitors back to together. On the restart, Taylor’s dominance behind the wheel came through as he defended and held onto third position before a consecutive full-course yellow took competitors to the final minutes of the race. With under 6-minutes to go, it was a shootout to the end and Taylor battled every corner and minute before seeing the checkered flag from third place. Today’s third place is the No. 10 Cadillac WTR team’s third podium in as many races on the streets of Detroit.

Louis Delétraz and the No. 40 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R GTP secured a front row start for the second race in a row and were ready to push their way to the front as the race went green. Maintaining track position with the GTP leaders, Delétraz was focused on keeping his sights on those in front of him in preparation for the race’s one single pit stop. Delétraz continued to navigate the nine-turn street course inside the top four before bringing the Cadillac V-Series.R GTP machinery into pit lane on an undercut strategy - taking fuel and handing the reins over to Jordan Taylor. After a speedy driver change and pit stop, Taylor cycled back out on track in seventh during the pit sequence as today’s race ended favoring the overcut pit strategy. Despite the pit strategy, Taylor was focused to survive the final half of the 100-minute sprint as competitors around him saw penalties and attrition in track position. On a narrow track, Taylor looked to optimize both full course yellows and restarts, but not enough time remaining on the clock allowed for further progression. The No. 40 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R GTP team crossed the finish line in sixth to end the day in Detroit, tying their best result of 2026 thus far.

“Well, that’s third place in Detroit!” said Wayne Taylor, Team Co-Owner. “For me, this is like a win given the absolute bad luck we’ve had all year but today has just turned everything around. I am even more excited to go to Le Mans after getting onto the podium. I’m so proud of Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing and all the guys and girls that make this happen. To all our drivers, both on the No. 10 and No. 40 car – Ricky, Filipe, Jordan, Louis - all did outstanding jobs. So happy for Cadillac to have a 1-3 finish with two Cadillacs on the podium. Congratulations to Action Express on their win, and I am just ecstatic at the moment.”

The Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing team’s next stop will take them overseas to France, for their second year of competing for sports car glory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from June 12-14. Following Le Mans, the team will return stateside as the duo of Cadillac WTR V-Series.R GTPs return to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the six-hour endurance race at Watkins Glen International on June 26-28, 2026.

Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing Driver Quotes

Ricky Taylor, full season co-driver, No. 10 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “Huge relief here in Detroit. Big day for Cadillac with a 1-3 result. Really happy for the Cadillac WTR team. We got very unlucky in Qualifying with Filipe on a really good lap when the red flag came out. That could have totally changed our day, so the team was on the back foot at the start of the race. Again, they nailed the strategy and put us in a good position to fight for a podium. I’m happy that everything worked out as planned and the team was flawless. Good momentum going into Le Mans. Happy for WTR and Cadillac Racing!”

Filipe Albuquerque, full season co-driver, No. 10 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “Detroit is treating us well. Another podium! Three races in the city center of Detroit and three podiums. I’m happy with that coming from P7. Qualifying was frustrating, but we turned that frustration into a podium coming from P7, even with contact where I lost two positions. The Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing team did a fantastic job. The car was good and Ricky just holding up everybody with the strategy that we took. It was risky, but it paid off. We are really happy with a podium, especially knowing our season, how it’s going, it shows that we never give up. We need to start somewhere, and this is it. We start the momentum and let’s go forward.”

Jordan Taylor, full season co-driver, No. 40 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “Not much to say for the day. Good day for Cadillac Racing going first and third, but on the 40 side, the pit sequence kind of put us behind and then it’s a tough track to pass. But we gained a couple spots due to attrition and other guys making mistakes, but we have some work to do to find some pace and that’s kind of how our year is going so far.”

Louis Delétraz, full season co-driver, No. 40 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “Good day for Cadillac Racing and congrats to the No. 31 and the No. 10 for the third place. Not our day. We pitted early and it turns out pitting later was better here. Obviously, we were trying to protect ourselves from a yellow and we tried. The Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing team executed well, no mistakes and P6 is still some good points. Thanks to everyone.”
