2026 Detroit Grand Prix Pre Race Report

Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing prepares to tackle the third sprint race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic amongst the field of 11 Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) competitors. The 100-minute street race through the heart of downtown Detroit enter its third year and is right in the backyard of Cadillac Racing headquarters. For the Wayne Taylor Racing team, Detroit has proven to be a strong event with the team holding five wins, including the inaugural win in 2024 when the series returned to a downtown circuit.

Full season co-drivers of the No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R GTP, Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque, are eager to return to the Detroit street circuit, which has historically been a place of dominant performance for the two drivers. The pairing has never finished lower than fourth in Detroit, with Taylor boasting four victories across the streets of downtown and the former Belle Isle circuit. Their most recent feat saw Taylor and Albuquerque second on the podium step, just shy of going back-to-back after winning in 2024. Given all the success for the No. 10 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R GTP has had in the Motor City, both are ready to continue that momentum heading into the race weekend.

Jordan Taylor and Louis Delétraz in the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R GTP return to Detroit ready to capitalize on their experience as a pairing around the tight, nine-turn street course. Like his brother, Jordan Taylor boasts an impressive five victories from when the competition previously raced on the streets of Belle Isle Park – adjacent to the now established street circuit. Taylor and Delétraz’s best results together on the downtown circuit was a top five result back in 2024 and the duo are seeking a step to put their No. 40 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R GTP on the podium come Saturday.

“I’m excited for Detroit because it is Cadillac’s home race and there will be a big turnout of GM and Cadillac executives and employees. It is nice having their moral and support cheering us on,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Co-Owner. “We have been pretty successful in Detroit, last year we led until the last five minutes to come on a very close second and the year before we won. Hopefully we can try and be the one to give Cadillac the win in Detroit.”

With a condensed two-day weekend, capitalizing on the on-track sessions will be critical for the Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing GTP teams at the Chevrolet Detroit Sports Car Classic as they take on the 1.645-mile street circuit. Friday, May 29, will see two practice sessions then qualifying to close out the day at 5:10 p.m. ET on Peacock. The 100-minute sprint race on the streets of Detroit will go green at 4:10 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 30, with the race broadcast featured on NBC and streaming available on Peacock.

Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing Driver Quotes

Ricky Taylor, full season co-driver, No. 10 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “We have had strong cars in Detroit and good results. That gives us some confidence, but this race weekend is so much execution critical that we still need to make sure we do the small things right on the weekend. The Cadillac is very adjustable and puts the power down quite well, which suits street courses in general. But a bumpy one like Detroit, we need the adjustability. We have spent a lot of time on the sim recently and because the weekend is so condensed with such a short race as well, planning the run plan and a starting car setup are at a bit more of a premium.”

Filipe Albuquerque, full season co-driver, No. 10 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “Detroit is a race that me and Ricky have been very happy at. We won the first round in 2024, and 2025 was a close call and we finished second in a brilliant race from all of Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing. Obviously, we want to repeat the podium streak in 2026, although we come from a bad start to the year. We hope that we can change that in the lovely Detroit that has been kind to us so far. Like last year, the Cadillac V-Series.R has been feeling very well. Street courses are about qualifying well and then calling the strategy perfectly, so it’s very challenging for the driver change since the pits are so small making the driver change hard. It’s always demanding, but let’s try for it, and we are hoping that our No. 10 Cadillac V-Series.R continues to be competitive, so that we can bring a victory to Cadillac in Detroit.”

Jordan Taylor, full season co-driver, No. 40 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “The No. 10 car had a great run at Detroit last year battling for the win, and since then we’ve learned a lot about our Cadillac, so we should be in even better shape coming back this year. The Cadillac V-Series.R does seem to suit street courses quite well given we felt competitive this year at Long Beach and having been in the hunt for the win at Detroit last year. This is a very bumpy track with all sorts of different surfaces, so having a car that can work in all different conditions is important to being competitive here. We’ve spent a lot of time going over last year’s race weekend of what was good, bad, and what we would have done differently so that we can take those lessons to the simulator to better prepare us for this year’s race.”

Louis Delétraz, full season co-driver, No. 40 Cadillac WTR V-Series.R: “There is great confidence coming into Detroit knowing our Cadillac V-Series.R was fast last year. Since the start of the year our pace has been strong, but success hasn’t come in the races. It’s time to turn that around. I am confident with our work at Laguna Seca, coming from a pole position, that we can race at the front this weekend. The bumpy and low grip streets of Detroit suit our Cadillac V-Series.R well since our car is very polyvalent and usually has big operating window, which is extremely important on street tracks. Before Detroit we have spent time in the simulator at Dallara, as well as in Charlotte which is a very useful tool as we never get the opportunity to test on the street tracks. Everyone at Cadillac WTR has worked hard to be ready for this event.”
