Danny Formal, Trent Hindman and the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO of Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) returned to California for the second sprint race of the regular IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season and came home victorious. Formal had handled the qualifying duties and tallied his second-consecutive front row start in second position for the team at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, two-hundreths of a second off pole.
Formal saw the green flag fly prepared to challenge to the front of the GTD pack coming off of his dominant performance earlier in the morning in Lamborghini Super Trofeo competition. Formal showed his finesse behind the wheel while maintaining pace with the leader. After just under an hour of racing, Formal handed driving duties over to his teammate, Trent Hindman, who was determined to keep the momentum going. With new tires and full energy, a speedy pit stop by the No. 45 Wayne Taylor Racing GTD crew sent Hindman back out with prime track position. Due to attrition of the GTD class leader, Hindman inherited the lead and then the rest was history.
Demonstrating his skill behind the wheel, Hindman pushed to maintain his position at the front of the pack before pitting for tires and fuel to stay within the GTD leaders. Knowing the they needed to make their third pit stop of the race for energy and fuel only, the No. 45 GTD team called Hindman to pit lane to top off then it became a waiting game. As the clock counted down, Hindman found himself in solid positioning with more energy than the other GTD challengers in the field. When the final minutes of the race came to a head Hindman led the pack, and he took the checkered flag ahead of the 12 other GTD competitors to take home the team’s first win of the season.
“It has been incredible work for the team and the drivers to get to where we are today,” said Travis Houge, Vice President and GM, Wayne Taylor Racing. “The No 45 DEX Lamborghini GT3 Evo2 car was quick all weekend long. This result really shows all the time and the effort that everybody's put in over the last couple months to get us in this position. It's just a culmination of all their hard work. It is one the team deserves, and one that the drivers definitely deserve. Big congrats to everybody on the team.”
The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO of Wayne Taylor Racing now have a break before they shift back to endurance racing mindset at Watkins Glen International on June 25-28, 2026 .
Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “It’s just an incredible day! It got pretty dicey with some of the inter-class battles and obviously with cars on other strategies maybe just trying to gamble to the end. But staying patient was the number one thing, I was getting great information from the team, and I was on them the whole time, so I apologise for blowing out their eardrums! The car was awesome all day and Danny did a great job.”
Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Since Long Beach, we have shown that the car is great, and we rolled off the trailer in really good shape. We did a small shakedown last week and already I knew that we had a great machine, and we just executed perfectly all weekend, from Practice to Qualifying. Having missed pole by two hundredths of a second, we did an amazing race; my stint was kind of a management job to see how we were doing, and Trent did a fantastic double stint, and the team called a perfect strategy. I want to say a massive thanks to Wayne Taylor Racing and to Lamborghini for giving us such an amazing car.”
