2026 GTD Laguna Seca Pre Race Report

The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 head to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for their second sprint event of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship regular season. After a heartbreaking end to a promising start in Long Beach, the short turnaround in the schedule allows for the Wayne Taylor Racing GTD team to refocus on the positive pace and momentum gained at a track they are quite familiar with at Laguna Seca.

Danny Formal and Trent Hindman enter WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for their second season together and the 2.238-mile road course is one that they both have their fair share of success at. Formal collected the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini GTD team’s first pole position in 2023 in the team’s debut season while Hindman previously started from the GTD class pole in 2021. For the Wayne Taylor Racing GTD team, their two appearances at Laguna Seca resulted in two top-10 finishes and Formal and Hindman will be seeking the team’s first podium at Laguna Seca.

“I am looking forward to Laguna Seca” said Wayne Taylor, Team Co-Owner. “This team has shown, time and time again, that they know how to get the most out of this race car. If we just have a little bit of luck on our side this time, I know we will show just how strong we are.”

The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 team will begin race preparations with Practice on Friday, May 1, at 6:20 p.m. ET (3:20 p.m. PT). The 15-minute Qualifying is set for 6:15 p.m. ET (3:15 p.m. PT) on Saturday, May 2. Sunday, May 3, will serve host to the two-hour, 40-minute racing action from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca starting at 4:10 p.m. ET (1:10 p.m. PT) with the broadcast available on NBC Sports Network and Peacock.

Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Our California tour continues to Laguna Seca – where I got my first Pole Position in GTD in 2024. It brings back a lot of memories. It was also my first IMSA win back in 2020 with Lamborghini Super Trofeo. I’m super excited to get back to there with the GTD program after a promising weekend in Long Beach ended unfortunately in a DNF. We are ready to bounce back. The Wayne Taylor Racing team is working nonstop to get the car sorted for the race. Trent and I have some redemption to do. I’m so thankful to be here with Lamborghini, DEX and Wayne Taylor Racing. I’m super excited to get the weekend started and see what we can do.”

Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Laguna Seca is incredibly unique and one of the staple events on our calendar. Among all options of preparation (sim, data, etc.) the single most important piece at Laguna Seca is previous experience and physical laps. TV and onboard cameras do not fully show how significant some of the elevation changes are and how blind braking events/corner entries can change visual cues from inside the car. Simulators have become significantly more accurate in their scanning of the track surface itself, but even that will not fully capture the subtle changes in the road and the nuanced approach to various corners that only being physically on the racetrack can provide. It’s all down to the history and speed that the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini team has shown in years’ past. We know the car can perform well at Laguna Seca, and just like any of the sprint races in GTD, track position is everything. So, we’ll do our best to take advantage of that, qualify up front, and stay there for the race. This team deserves nothing less than a win.”
