Date: May 2, 2009
Event: Verizon Wireless 250 (Round 3 of 12)
Series: Daytona Prototype division of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series
Location: New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville (2.25-mile, 14-turn road course)
Pole Winner: Romain Dumas of Penske Racing (1:14.057 at 109.375 mph)
SunTrust Racing: Fifth with Brian Frisselle (1:15.201 at 107.711 mph)

The No. 10 SunTrust Ford Dallara of Wayne Taylor Racing will start Sunday’s Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Verizon Wireless 250 from the inside of the third row after qualifying Saturday afternoon at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) in Millville.

Brian Frisselle, new full-time co-driver this season with Max Angelelli in the SunTrust Racing machine, navigated the 2.25-mile, 14-turn NJMP circuit in 1 minute, 15.201 seconds (107.711 mph), good for fifth-fastest among the 31 car-and-driver combinations entered for Saturday’s 2-hour, 45-minute event.

“It was good,” said Frisselle, who put the No. 10 SunTrust car eighth on the grid at Virginia International Raceway in Alton last weekend in his first qualifying effort with his new team. “Unfortunately, we dealt with traffic early and then got a decent lap in, but didn’t take full advantage when the tires had peaked. I think, maybe had I been able to do that, I might have been able to get the car up to P3. I don’t think I could have gotten any higher than that. Overall, the SunTrust car is very strong, and one thing we’ve proven this weekend is that we are strong on old tires. I think it’s looking good for the race.”

Sunday’s race may be affected by wet weather as rain is forecasted to move into the Millville area Saturday night and stay throughout much of Sunday.

“It’s nice that it ended up being dry for qualifying,” said Taylor, whose team qualified and finished second at New Jersey last August in the first-ever Rolex Series race at the track, located about an hour south of Philadelphia in South Jersey. “We’d always like to be on the front row, but this isn’t bad. I think we’ve got a good car. I think it’s just going to depend on the weather. Everybody will be in the same boat, but starting fifth, we’ll be okay.”

“Obviously, every driver would prefer to drive a dry race, but it will be the same for everybody,” Frisselle said about Sunday’s forecast. “And, I know from driving in the rain, we have a good car, should it rain.”

The top-five in qualifying were the following teams:

1. Penske Racing (No. 12 Porsche Riley) with Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas (1:14.057 at 109.375 mph)

2. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (No. 01 Lexus Riley) with Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett (1:14.265 at 109.069 mph)

3. Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing (No. 99 Pontiac Riley) with Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney (1:14.919 at 108.117 mph)

4. Krohn Racing (No. 76 Ford Lola) with Nic Jonsson and Ricardo Zonta (1:14.968 at 108.046 mph)

5. SunTrust Racing (No. 10 Ford Dallara) with Brian Frisselle and Max Angelelli (1:15.201 at 107.711 mph)
