2013 Detroit Qualifying Report

Date: May 31, 2013
Event: Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200 (Round 5 of 12)
Series: Daytona Prototype division of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series
Location: The Streets of Belle Isle in Detroit (2.36-mile, 13-turn temporary street course)

The No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette Dallara DP of Wayne Taylor Racing will start Saturday’s second running of the Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200 Rolex Series race from the pole after qualifying Friday on the Streets of Belle Isle temporary circuit in downtown Detroit.

Jordan Taylor, the recently turned 22-year-old co-driver with veteran Max “The Ax” Angelelli, scored his first career Daytona Prototype-class pole to go with six career GT-class poles with a lap of 1 minute, 27.675 seconds at 96.903 mph around the reconfigured 2.36-mile, 13-turn street course. It was tops among 26 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag for Saturday’s two-hour race.

“It’s good being here for Chevrolet and right in the backdrop of the Renaissance Center,” said Taylor, who co-drove with Paul Edwards to his second of two career GT-class victories at Belle Isle last year in the No. 88 Autohaus Motorsports Camaro GT.R. “We had an event there last night and we had a pretty big talk on how important this weekend is. I’m really proud to lead the whole Chevy brigade for tomorrow. We weren’t too confident going into qualifying. We weren’t in the top five in either (practice) session. We got together and made some big changes and something worked.”

Jon Fogarty will join Taylor on the front row in the No. 99 Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing Corvette DP. Angelelli qualified the No. 10 Corvette DP on the front row alongside the polesitting Fogarty at last year’s inaugural Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200.

The top-five on the starting grid for Saturday’s Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200 are:

1. Wayne Taylor Racing (No. 10 Corvette DP) with Jordan Taylor and Max Angelelli (1:27.675 at 96.903 mph).

2. Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing (No. 99 Corvette DP) with Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney (1:27.802 at 96.763 mph).

5. Spirit of Daytona Racing (No. 90 Corvette DP) with Ricky Taylor and Richard Westbrook (1:27.953 at 96.597 mph).

Race time is 12:30 p.m. EDT Saturday with same-day-delayed television provided by SPEED beginning at 5 p.m. Live radio on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 begins at 12:15 p.m. Live timing and scoring during all on-track sessions can be found at www.grand-am.com, and on mobile devices at m.grand-am.com and the GRAND-AM smartphone app.
