The No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette Dallara DP of Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) will start Saturday’s inaugural GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series SFP Grand Prix from the inside of the third row after qualifying Friday night at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.
Max “The Ax” Angelelli, the veteran Italian teammate to 22-year-old first-year co-driver Jordan Taylor, clocked a fast lap of 1 minute, 10.184 seconds at 121.566 mph around the 2.37-mile, six-turn Kansas Speedway infield layout situated between turns one and two of its 1.5-mile tri-oval. It was good for fifth-best among the 28 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag for Saturday night’s two-hour, 45-minute race.
“It wasn’t the best qualifying session we’ve had all year, but we’re here to win the race and I think we will have a good racecar for Saturday night,” said Angelelli, who qualified the Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP for the first time since the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona. “I’m not incredibly happy with where we ended up, but, again, the most important thing is that we have a good racecar for Saturday night. This is going to be an exciting race, that’s for sure.”
Memo Rojas scored his first pole of the season and the ninth of his career in the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley he co-drives with fellow three-time-defending series champion Scott Pruett.
