2014 Six Hours of The Glen Qualifying Report

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Chevrolet Corvette Dallara Daytona Prototype for Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) will start Saturday’s Tudor United SportsCar Championship Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen from the outside of the row three after qualifying Saturday at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.

It was Ricky Taylor’s turn to handle the qualifying duties, and the 24-year-old co-driver to 23-year-old brother Jordan Taylor and veteran Italian Max “The Ax” Angelelli turned a fast lap of 1 minute, 39.055 seconds at 123.568 mph around the 3.4-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen circuit. It was good for sixth among 55 car-and-driver combinations in all four Tudor series classes here set to take the green flag for Sunday’s six-hour race, which is round three of four on the 2014 Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup championship within a championship.

“It wasn’t so bad, said Taylor, whose best qualifying effort this season was third at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. “I think we haven’t had such great qualifying results this year, but that one was closer to the big chunk of DPs than we have been, so it wasn’t so bad. We tried something with the car and didn’t get what we expected for qualifying but I think the car will be really good for the race. It was encouraging because it feels like a good race car but just not suited to an outright lap. I caught up with some traffic that really hurt our rhythm. That was kind of frustrating. So, I’m not worried about Sunday. We have a good racecar and that’s the main thing we can take out of it. I think it was still very much improved from practiced, which is what we were shooting for. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”

The top-five qualifiers for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen are:

2. Action Express Racing (No. 5 Corvette DP) with Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa (1:38.831 at 124.188 mph).

3. Spirit of Daytona Racing (No. 90 Corvette DP) with Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiante (1:38.692 at 124.022 mph).

4. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (No. 01 Ford Riley) with Scott Pruett, Memo Rojas and Sage Karam (1:38.738 at 123.964 mph).

5. Extreme Speed Motorsports (No. 1 HPD ARX-03b) with Ryan Dalziel and Scott Sharp (1:39.005 at 123.630 mph).
