2015 Six Hours of The Glen Qualifying Report

Date: June 27, 2015
Event: Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen (Round 6 of 10)

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP for Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) will start Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen from the outside of the second row after TUDOR United SportsCar Championship qualifying Saturday was abandoned due to weather on the Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course. The 35-car starting grid was set based on the latest championship point standings, per the IMSA rulebook.

Ricky Taylor, who won this race in 2011 alongside veteran Italian Max “The Ax” Angelelli in the No. 10 prototype, will once again start Sunday’s six-hour endurance marathon and will share the driving duties with his full-time co-driver and younger brother Jordan Taylor and part-time co-driver Angelelli.

“It’s a shame we’re not qualifying today,” said Ricky Taylor, who has co-driven to a win and a pair of second-place finishes through the season’s first five events. “I think we had a shot at a little better of a starting spot. But it’s a long race, and with the conditions expected to be so mixed, it can go a lot of different ways. We’ll just need to be in the hunt with two hours to go, and also with three hours to go for the sake of the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup. Traffic’s always important, especially here, being one of the endurance races, those third drivers and sometimes a wild card. That makes being conservative a little bit more rewarding at the end of the race. With the rain, there could be more yellows, so it’s going to change the race a lot but we’ll just have to focus on good track position at the three-hour mark and then at the four-hour mark so we can go racing at the end.”

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP team is second in the four-race Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup heading into Sunday’s third of four races in that championship-within-a-championship. The four race that make up the Endurance Cup are the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, and the season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in early October.

The top-five grid positions (based on championship points) for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International are:

1. Action Express Racing (No. 5 Corvette DP) with Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa.

2. Spirit of Daytona Racing (No. 90 Corvette DP) with Michael Valiante and Richard Westbrook.

3. Action Express Racing (No. 31 Corvette DP) with Eric Curran and Dane Cameron.

2. Wayne Taylor Racing (No. 10 Corvette DP) with Ricky Taylor, Jordan Taylor, and Max Angelelli.

4. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (No. 01 Ford Riley) with Scott Pruett and Joey Hand.

Race time is 10:10 a.m. EDT Sunday with FOX Sports 1 kicking off the live telecast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The broadcast switches to FOX Sports 2 at 2 p.m. through the race’s conclusion and post-race festivities. Live timing and scoring during all on-track sessions is available at IMSA.com and the IMSA smartphone app.
