The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R will start Saturday’s Chevrolet Sports Car Classic from the outside of the fifth row after IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying was abandoned short of its mandatory 10-minute minimum green-flag session time Friday afternoon on The Streets of Belle Isle circuit in downtown Detroit.

IMSA officials were not able to restart the scheduled 15-minute qualifying session after an accident just seven minutes into the session by Ricky Taylor, who co-drives the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R with his younger brother Jordan Taylor, brought out the red flag.

The elder Taylor brother had just set the fast time of the session at 1 minute 24.530 seconds when the rear end of his racing machine broke loose exiting the high-speed, right-hand turn four of the 2.36-mile, 13-turn temporary street circuit and made contact with the outside retaining wall. Taylor emerged unhurt. Track officials, however, were not able to remove the racecar and repair damage to the retaining wall with sufficient time to restart the session and the starting grid, per the IMSA rulebook, was set according to championship points. Even though the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R leads the standings after winning all four races contested so far this year, it was placed at the back of the Prototype-class grid for causing the stoppage, per the IMSA rulebook.

“It was my mistake,” Taylor said. “I was pushing hard in qualifying, like usual. The only regret is that it happened early in the session and we didn't have a backup qualifying lap. I feel bad for the team. We can still have a good race tomorrow. I am optimistic. We didn’t need this, though. I hate it for the team. The race is a short one and I have a lot of faith in our guys.”

The top-five cars on the starting grid for Saturday’s Chevrolet Sports Car Classic are:

1. Action Express Racing (No. 5 Cadillac DPi-V.R) with Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa

2. Action Express Racing (No. 31 Cadillac DPi-V.R) with Eric Curran and Dane Cameron

3. JDC-Miller Motorsports (No. 85 Oreca LMP2) with Misha Goikhberg and Stephen Simpson

4. Extreme Speed Motorsports (No. 2 Nissan DPi) with Scott Sharp and Ryan Dalziel

5. Mazda Motorsports (No. 55 Mazda DPi) with Tristan Nunez and Jonathan Bomarito

The green flag flies at 12:40 p.m. EDT Saturday with FS2’s live television broadcast set for 12:30 p.m. Live timing and scoring, as well as select live in-car video streams with IMSA Radio commentary will be available during the race at IMSA.com and the IMSA smartphone app.
