2022 NOLA LST Post Race Report

The Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo (LST) stable overcame difficult weather conditions in Race 1 before storming to an emphatic win in Race 2 at New Orleans Motorsports Park this weekend. The No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing LST secured the overall and PRO class win on Sunday, while the No. 25 Harrison Contracting Company with Wayne Taylor Racing LST completed a podium sweep with a pair of second-place finishes in the PRO|AM class across the double header.

Danny Formal and Kyle Marcelli secured their second win of the season in their blue and black No. 1 Prestige Performance machine in Race 2, after securing double pole positions in Saturday’s qualifying. Danny Formal’s blistering lap of 1:35:484 at 103.682mph set the track record for the LST PRO class at NOLA. With the result, the duo took first place in the PRO championship standings with a two-point margin. Race 1 was less fortunate, with rain delaying the start. Issues changing from rain tires to slicks and the need to make multiple pit stops dropped the team down the order, but they fought back to a strong fifth place finish. Kyle Marcelli led away from pole in Race 2 and soon dropped to second place. He saved the tires so his teammate could push to the end, and Danny Formal completed the strategy, winning in dominant fashion.

Jordan Missig joined Aidan Yoder in the cockpit of the PRO class No. 53 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing machine for the first time this season. The driver pairing was on for a podium in Race 1 before experiencing similar pit stop issues to those that plagued the No. 1 car. They fought back in Race 2 to finish sixth, despite light damage to the front right of the car.

Ashton Harrison and Tom Long completed an excellent points weekend for their team by finishing in second place in both races in the PRO|AM class. The red No. 25 Harrison Contracting Company with Wayne Taylor Racing LST drivers currently lead the PRO|AM championship by four points as they look forward to the next round in Watkins Glen.

Randy Sellari improved throughout the weekend in his No. 3 JG Wenworth with Wayne Taylor Racing LST, finishing tenth in the first race, and making a number of impressive passes on his way to fourth place in Race 2.

The 2022 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series heads to Watkins Glen next, with Race 1 going green at 2:20 p.m. ET on June 24th, followed by Race 2 at 12:00 p.m. ET of June 25th. Watch live on IMSA.TV.

DRIVER QUOTES

Kyle Marcelli, No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing

First off, thanks to the SRO and NOLA for hosting us. It was an audible to come here from the original plan to go to Ozarks and hopefully one day we’ll get to go there. It was a challenging weekend with so many races on track and the weather. We handled it as best as we could. We felt we left a result on the table yesterday since we came out of the gates strong by securing both pole positions. We felt that we could have won both races, but it is what it is. That’s racing. We win as a team and lose as a team. Today was all about redemption and it was nothing but a victory. Prestige Performance and Wayne Taylor Racing are the best in the business and it’s fantastic to have their support and to represent them.”

Daniel Formal, No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing

“An up and down weekend for us. Two pole positions for our car and a track record for me. Kyle did an awesome last lap to put us on pole for Race 2. I was leading Race 1 in the rain yesterday. The team had to commit to a bold strategy as I was the leader and we were leading the championship. Things out of our control cost us a lot of track position, but we recovered to finish fifth. Today, we needed a strong rebound and we accomplished that. The car was fantastic—it was on rails. Kyle saved the tires for me. He got passed under yellow, which was out of our control again, but he gave me a complete race car. So proud of Kyle, Prestige Performance and the whole Wayne Taylor Racing crew. It was such a fantastic job this weekend. We were the fastest car all weekend and we walked away with a win by a big, big margin. We lead the championship heading into Watkins Glen!”

Ashton Harriosn, No. 25 Harrison Contracting Company with Wayne Taylor Racing

“We finished second in round four at NOLA. We’re happy with that! It gets us good points and gives us a bigger lead in the PRO|AM championship, which is our overall goal. This No. 25 Harrison Contracting Company with Wayne Taylor Racing team did an excellent job this weekend overcoming hurdles, especially in Race 1, doing a mid-race tire change which isn’t easy in these LST cars. The organization is top-notch and so happy to be a part of this team. I’m so excited for Watkins Glen. Every race is an opportunity to secure more points towards this championship. We’ll head to the state of New York and try and go one step higher on the podium!”

Tom Long, No. 25 Harrison Contracting Company with Wayne Taylor Racing

“This was a really good points day. Ashton had a fantastic closing stint. Her pace was phenomenal all weekend long and it really puts an exclamation point on the championship lead for us. There wasn’t a win in the books this weekend, but when you look at it from a points perspective, it’s a really solid result. Compared to some of our competitors, I think we’ve got a leg up. This No. 25 Harrison Contracting Company with Wayne Taylor Racing team does such a fantastic job preparing these cars and I’m so happy to bring home another podium finish for them.”

Aidan Yoder, No. 53 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing

“Today’s race was difficult. Lots of things to overcome. Damage to the front right created a decent amount of aero-wash, especially through the esses, but I made the most out of it and learned throughout the session. I wanted to learn all I could about how to drive the car in that state, in these conditions, with the delicate aero balance. The pace was good and the team never gave up. We kept working on the setup the entire weekend, nonstop every session, and by the end of the weekend the car was at its best. I’m really proud of the effort from all the guys with Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing. A win for Kyle and Danny and a second place for Tom and Ashton—that’s pretty sweet. We still brought it home in sixth today and that’s decent points for us, so we’re looking forward to Watkins Glen.”

Jordan Missig, No. 53 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing

“We had some unavoidable contact with a bunch of guys fighting for the same space on the race track early-on today, but it was classic Lap 1 hard racing. Towards the end, we were able to keep our car clean and had pretty good pace. We kept the championship leaders, at that time, behind us for many laps and were able to make up one more spot before the pit stops. We improved the car throughout the weekend and it was the best that it’s been in the last race. For my first weekend with Aidan, we worked together really well. We made big improvements with driving and setup, and we’ll be even better next time out!”
