2023 GT3 Long Beach Post Race Report

Due to damage sustained during Friday’s qualifying, Racers Edge Motorsports and Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) have officially retired the No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 ahead of Saturday’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend was the first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship sprint race entry for the Racers Edge Motorsports with WTRAndretti team and the first co-driver pairing of Ashton Harrison and Mario Farnbacher in IMSA competition. In a weekend that looked very promising for the No. 93 Rely on Red team – all dressed in a limited-edition Acura Chiaki’s Journey Season 2 livery – was heartbroken to not compete and represent the Acura banner at the manufacturer’s home race on the streets of Long Beach. Next ahead for the No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 will be Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International on June 25, 2023.

Ashton Harrison:
“I’m so honored to have the opportunity to represent Acura at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach at their home race. We had so much fun getting into character as Chiaki and Uncle Noboru with our Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 in this amazing Acura livery design. The NSX was super quick out of the box, and we were running up front in both practice sessions and put the Racers Edge Motorsports with WTRAndretti and Acura Motorsports in a position to be competitive at this race. We definitely had the car to compete for at least a podium or even the win. Mario and I really enjoyed working together in our first IMSA race and hope there is an opportunity to participate in future IMSA rounds together with HPD and Acura behind the wheel of the Acura NSX. I have to say a huge thank you to Harrison Contracting Company, Acura, HPD and the whole Racers Edge Motorsports and WTRAndretti crew for their support. Our luck has been tough so far in IMSA events, but we know we can come back even stronger next time.”

Mario Farnbacher:
“We had a really good start into the weekend. The car was amazing out of the box, so major thank you to our engineers, Jim Pattin and Dave Wagener, and the entire crew for having the car set up so well right away. I was really happy to be back as a part of Chiaki’s Journey, Part 2, as Noboru, and thankful to Acura for the opportunity to be involved again this year. Unfortunately, because of the incident in qualifying yesterday, we cannot race the car today. We had a strong car this weekend; we were P2 in second practice which was a good statement to we could be competitive and fight for a podium, and probably a win. The car looks so beautiful – it is a great cartoon anime look and even sometimes when looked at the pictures, you could be thinking ‘Is that a real car, or still an anime car?’, so huge applause to the Acura team who created the design and all of the promotion for this release. Big thanks to the Racers Edge Motorsports with WTRAndretti crew for preparing such a fast car. It was so much fun to drive out here in Long Beach.”
