The No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 with Racers Edge Motorsports Wayne Taylor Racing Andretti Autosport team entered the third race of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Championship at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen with focus set on redemption and unfinished business after the previous two endurance races. Ashton Harrison, Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal were tasked as the trio of co-drivers behind the wheel of the No. 93 Rely on RED Acura to tackle six intense hours of racing at Watkins Glen International in New York.
The weekend saw a variety of weather, Ashton Harrison battled a unique set of conditions on track in qualifying with a mix of slightly wet and dry that led to the No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 to line up 19th in the GTD class come Sunday’s race. Harrison started the six-hour event and quickly gained crucial track positions right from the start. Continuing with the momentum built on the start, Harrison had worked her way into the top five in the GTD category until the team was served a drive-through penalty for a pit lane protocol violation. Despite the penalty, she dug deep and still brought the red Acura into pit lane top ten in class after nearly a two-hour stint. On pit lane, Harrison handed the reins over to co-driver Danny Formal.
Formal, who had pulled “double duty” alongside co-driver Kyle Marcelli competing in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series over the weekend, quickly got up to speed and aimed to continue the progress forward towards the front of the GTD class. The Costa Rican driver held steady in the No. 93 Rely on RED machine for roughly an hour before changing driver positions with Kyle Marcelli. Marcelli then took over behind the wheel just outside the top ten in class and was dealt the hottest conditions of the weekend while inside the cockpit. After battling those intensely hot conditions, Marcelli then came in for a driver change with Formal to pilot the No. 93 to the finish. In a busy final hour of the race, Formal was able to navigate traffic and tick away at GTD competitors to find himself and the Rely on RED team back in the GTD class top ten. The end of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen finished under yellow flag, but a solid top-ten GTD result is exactly what the No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 team needed after fighting from the rear of the field.
The No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 and Racers Edge Motorsports with WTRAndretti team will cap off the IMSA Michelin Endurance Championship campaign at Petit Le Mans on October 14th, 2023.
ASHTON HARRISON
“Not too bad of day, all things considered. Finishing P8 at Watkins Glen, especially considering we started 19th. The No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 team did a mega job all day long, especially considering they thought it might rain and it ended up being blazing hot. Great work to all at Racers Edge Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing Andretti Autosport and to Kyle and Danny who had absolutely no cooling during their entire stints. They were absolute rock stars and Iron Men. We will keep our heads down and get ready for Road Atlanta.”
KYLE MARCELLI
“Overall, not a bad day considering that we started P19 and ending the day P8. We need to be happy with that. The Racers Edge Motorsports with WTRAndretti team did a great job today on the strategy side with just one hiccup in pit lane. It was a real grey area, releasing the car. Everyone thought we did the right thing, to go down the transition lane but we got served a drive through penalty. That kind of put us on the back foot. Ashton did a great job in her double stint to move the car forward and her pace was fantastic. I struggled a bit today in the heat and some malfunctions with our system. I did about a stint and a half and that was my biggest struggle. I wish I could have delivered a little more pace. I was too concentrated on not making mistakes and then Danny did a great job to finish. I know he wanted to finish the race and it just sort of worked out that way. His pace was good, and he sounded fresh on the radio at the end, so that was the right call. Good job by everyone today.”
DANNY FORMAL
“Well, we finished the Six Hours of the Glen. We started P19 in the No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 and finished P8. The Racers Edge Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing Andretti Autosport is such a great team. Our strategy was on point from our engineers, and Ashton and Kyle put in such effort. It was so hot; we had a malfunction in the cooling system, and the temp was like 140 degrees in the cockpit. Kyle and I were pushing through our stints. Driving the NSX felt really good. I’m so happy with the weekend and to be part of this organization. I’m so seriously grateful to be a part of this campaign - this team has become like family. I’m excited to get to Road Atlanta to get the podium we really deserve with the pace of the car.”
