The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 team will complete the sprint race portion of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the TireRack.com Battle On The Bricks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. The 2.439-mile road course circuit inside the iconic Brickyard marks the return of sportscar racing back at Indianapolis since 2014 and is host of the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) “home race” on the calendar for the first time in nearly a decade.
WTRAndretti co-drivers Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque each have experience in sportscar at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Taylor earning a podium finish in one of his three starts in the prototype racing era. As the TireRack.com Battle On The Bricks marks the penultimate event of 2023, Taylor, Albuquerque and the WTRAndretti team are eager to place the blue and black machine in victory lane for the first time this season and extend their current 14-point championship lead in front of a home crowd.
“Being back in the championship lead has been extremely motivating to go after these final two races,” said Ricky Taylor. “We have yet to win a race in 2023, but with Indianapolis being the team’s home race, there would be no better race to get back to the winning ways.”
“We’re coming from a streak of two podiums in a row, which is very good, and we are now leading the championship,” said Filipe Albuquerque. “Obviously, we’ve been in this situation before in the past few years leading the championship in the latest races, it’s about now that things get harder. We’re happy that we’ve managed to come back to the lead of the championship, but it’s still far from clinching the title. We need to be focused, doing our best and stay out of problems, because it seems like a crazy championship for everybody.”
“We’re heading to Indianapolis, probably one of the most famous racetracks in the world,” said Wayne Taylor. “It’s been a long time since we were there – I think it was back in the Grand-Am days and looking forward to it. All of our partners will be there for the weekend. It’s a crucial weekend, only having a 14-point lead in the championship, so we need to focus again like we have over the last two races and that is to try and come out with maximum points. I think taking any unnecessary risk to win a race is not going to be the plan, it’s going to be the big picture which is the championship. They are going to very, very competitive races and there are five cars that can still win this championship. So, we just have to go there and do what we normally do and see what happens.”
Action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway begins Friday, September 15th with practice at 2:40 p.m. ET. Qualifying is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 16th, with coverage on Peacock followed by the two-hour, 40-minute TireRack.com Battle On The Bricks sprint race on Sunday, September 17th at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.
