2023 SRO At VIR Post Race Report

The No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 Racers Edge Motorsports and Wayne Taylor Racing Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) team claimed crucial points in the 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge America championship at VIRginia International Raceway.

Despite suffering damage during a practice session and difficult qualifying for Race 1, Ashton Harrison and Mario Farnbacher were determined to turn around their luck as the green flag flew. In the opening stint, Harrison had navigated the No. 93 machine up to ninth place overall before the driver change pit stop. Farnbacher took the reins of the Rely on RED Acura and appeared to be smooth sailing until two unfortunate tire punctures sent the team to back of the field for the remainder of the race.

Starting from Pro class pole position, the No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 team had sights set on finishing the weekend strong in Race 2 at VIR after a tough Race 1. Farnbacher put the team in a great position for a podium and he handed the wheel over to Harrison to continue fighting at the front. Harrison held strong during the second stint of the race, contending for a class win before collecting a second-place finish as the checkered flag flew.

As the halfway mark in the 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge America season has officially passed, Ashton Harrison and Mario Farnbacher will see a short break in the schedule before returning in action at Road America on August 18-20, 2023.

Ashton Harrison:

“A podium finish was a good way to end our weekend at VIR. We managed to collect some good points today, staying ahead of our closest competition in the championship. I’m so thankful to the whole Racers Edge Motorsports with WTRAndretti crew who thrashed really hard all weekend, especially after an incident in Friday’s practice cut our session short and the car needed some body work repairs.  Although in Race 1 we unfortunately had some tire issues, we wrapped up with a second-place finish in Race 2, and at this point, that really feels like a win. I’ve been trying to get my dad a trophy here on Father’s Day - and that finally happened, too. I’m looking forward to being back with the team at Road America for GT World Challenge America in August - Road America is my absolute favorite track on the planet. We had a lot of success there last year, with a double win, so I know the hopes are really high to continue that trend.”

Mario Farnbacher:

“This was a very challenging weekend, to be honest. We expected a bit more pace, but we struggled with some tire issues, and unfortunately, we had an incident in the second practice session that cut short our run time as well. We tried to maximize what we could achieve based on that situation. First race was very disappointing with the two tire failures that dropped us to the bottom of the time sheet. There was nothing the Racers Edge Motorsports with WTRAndretti crew could have done differently. We made some precautionary changes for Race 2, and I think we made the right decisions considering the results. We had a more positive points gain overall this weekend in the championship points, and Ashton did a great job today in her stint. I love Road America and it’s a great playground for the NSX.”
