2025 GTD Laguna Seca Post Race Report

The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini HuracánGT3 EVO2 team tackled their traditional two-hour, 40-minute sprint race with the Monterey SportsCar Championship. Full season co-driver, Danny Formal qualified the No. 45 GTD to start Sunday’s race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from sixth position. As the green flag flew, Formal was hot to try to make up positions on track by trying to go around the outside on the start into the Turn 2 hairpin. Despite being ran a bit wide, Formal slotted back into the GTD field to settle in for the race. Knowing the pace in the No. 45 Lamborghini, Formal soon began clicking off positions and eventually found himself in fourth.

About two hours remaining on the clock, the No. 45 team called Formal to pit lane for full service and a driver change to co-driver, Trent Hindman. As Hindman took control of the chrome Lamborghini GTD, the team were eager to continue the momentum from Formal’s stint, but unfortunately a penalty on the pit stop stalled the progress made for the No. 45 team. After serving their drive through penalty, Hindman cycled back out still in the top 10 of the GTD field.

With heads down, Hindman focused on re-gaining positions on track, riding in eighth position for much of his stint. About an hour to go, it was time for another full-service pit stop with fuel and tires for the No. 45 team. As the race ran caution-free on a track difficult to pass, Hindman brought home the No. 45 in eighth place.

“We got a top 10 finish with some issues, but everything goes step by step and we have had some unfortunate things happen to us,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “A caution-free race makes it very difficult to make up spots. I am proud of this team. They keep at it. They push hard. The drivers did a great job. There is not much more I can ask of the team than what they did. Looking forward to going to the Six Hour in Watkins Glen and going back to three drivers with more strategy options. It is good to get a top 10.”

It’s a little over a month before the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 team return to racing action at Watkins Glen International for the Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen on June 20-22, 2025.

Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “P8 crossing the line. We had a great pace today. I am very happy with the No. 45 car. The race pace was better than our qualifying pace. A drive-through penalty kind of caught us out from top five finish. Just want to thank the team. They did fantastic after a tough Long Beach. It was a great rebound weekend. Extremely grateful to DEX, Lamborghini and Wayne Taylor Racing. Excited for Watkins Glen! It is one of my favorite tracks in the world and we had a decent race there last year.”

Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “It was nice to be closer to the mark this weekend than the past few, so big thanks to the guys for their effort and giving us a competitive car. Unfortunately, a drive through didn’t help our case. I think it would have been possible to hold our track position. But it was kind of tough there mid to the last stint to maintain what we had – perhaps asking too much of the car. Either way, much better weekend than the last two. That is all down to the teamwork by the No. 45 DEX Wayne Taylor Racing guys. This is something we can learn from and build on.”
