The No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 team brought home an impressive top five finish at Road America in their second sprint race in two weeks. Co-drivers Danny Formal and Trent Hindman worked together to climb positions around the 4.048-mile circuit throughout multiple full-course cautions.
Danny Formal, co-driver of the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, qualified in seventh place for Sunday’s Motul SportsCar Grand Prix at Road America. The field saw a full-course yellow in just the first few turns of the race, which gave Formal the advantage of pitting under the caution for energy without losing position.
With 90 minutes left in the sprint race, veteran driver Trent Hindman hopped in the No. 45 GTD to finish off the race. Hindman came back into pit lane shortly after beginning his stint in the car for right side tires and energy for their final pit stop of the race. The No. 45 was quick on the track with fresh tires and Hindman managed to climb to fourth place with 45 minutes remaining.
As the final restart came to green, the final stint of racing action saw the GTD class running shuffle around and jockey for position before the checkered flag flew. When time expired. Hindman crossed the line in fifth position.
"I'm really excited with where we are now with the GTD car,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “After the win at CTMP then coming here at Road America and getting a solid fifth position in a straight race was impressive. Both Danny and Trent did an outstanding job. I am proud of them and the WTR GTD team. I'm very happy for them and how they are building this program."
With the last two races resulting in a win and a top five finish, the No. 45 GTD team is hopeful to gain more championship points in the remaining three races of the season. Formal and Hindman will be back in competition on August 22-24, 2025 for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway.
Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2:
“Happy that we were able to survive today and get away with a top five finish. It certainly is a nice way to round out the weekend. Of course, we always want more. Between CTMP and here at Road America, we have a bit of momentum on our side. It’s a GT only event at VIR and it’s a race track that Danny and I like, and a race track that historically Wayne Taylor Racing has been good at in the place. We will take this momentum and move on to Virginia.”
Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2:
“It was an up and down day. I had a pretty good start, running up in the top five. We had good pace. The race ability was a bit difficult, but when we had clean air, the car felt fantastic. We kind of got mixed around there in the restarts. Trent did a good job picking up what was left out of a crazy race. So many yellow, so many people crashing into each other. Grateful for this opportunity with this program. So thankful to Lamborghini, DEX Imaging, everyone making this car go around this track as fast as it does. I'm super excited for VIR next. We will try to go get another podium and give it our all.”
