2025 GTD Road America Pre Race Report

The No. 45 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 team continue their stint of sprint races as they head to Road America this weekend. Fresh off a breakthrough and maiden victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the Wayne Taylor Racing GTD team enters the weekend as the latest winners with momentum and confidence on their side.

This year marks the team’s second full-season GTD campaign and first trip to the 4.048-mile road course with Danny Formal and Trent Hindman as a pairing. Last year’s event saw the WTR crew work quickly on garage-side repairs following an issue early in the race, allowing the car to return to the track and finish with competitive lap times. The No. 45 WTR Lamborghini team will take that experience, and a victory now under their belts, to push for another top finish in 2025.

Formal, who had a great start here last year before the mechanical issues arose, will aim to capitalize on his record of strong pace at the circuit while balancing double duty in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Championship. Hindman has a lot of experience around Road America and has sights set on a second win for the No. 45 team.

“When we won at CTMP, I got more text messages of congratulations than I had in a long time and clearly GTD is all manufacturer based, so we’ve burst through, SAID Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “I feel we can win in any class that we run in IMSA. The drivers are motivated; the team is motivated. A lot of strategy went into it. We will have to wait and see how competitive we are going to be at Road America, but I have a lot of faith in our No. 45 team and drivers.”

The Wayne Taylor Racing GTD team will hit the track for practice at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, August 1. Practice 2 is set for 10:05 a.m. ET on Saturday, August 2, with qualifying that evening at 5:40 p.m. ET. The Motul SportsCar Grand Prix at Road America will see the green flag wave at 2:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 3. The full race will be available to watch on Peacock.

Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Sunday at CTMP was a very special day for the DEX/WTR GTD squad and really highlighted the absolute emotional roller coaster this sport is. When speaking about how we approach Road America, I don’t think much changes in our processes of preparation. If anything, it gives us all a bit more motivation to dig deeper into where we can improve and find performance. This result gives us validation that we are on the right track but do indeed need to keep pushing if we want this to become a consistent result. Road America stands in pretty stark contrast to where we just were at. CTMP can almost be classified as a ‘short track’ now since it is relatively short in length, but the pace and cadence of the lap makes the racing incredibly intense. Road America, on the other hand, is significantly less intense thanks to the long straights between relatively low speed, short duration corners. With that said, the high speed and high temperature create a stressful environment for all involved - drivers, teams, and cars alike. We’re fortunate to have a pretty robust car and team behind us to make the most of Road America in the face of some, likely challenging, conditions.”

Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Road America, one of the best tracks in the country. A beautiful place! Going from a win in Mosport, the first for our GTD program and the first IMSA win in my career, super excited to get going at Road America. The WTR team has worked extremely hard after Mosport after getting hit on Lap 1 and getting the No. 45 back to square one and perfect for the race. We have never gone to a race before as winners, so there definitely is a target on our backs but I’m excited for that because pressure is awesome. I’m excited to get back to Road America with Trent; I love this track, and we were quite fast there last year before a mechanical issue took out of the running. I’m grateful for this opportunity with DEX Imaging, Lamborghini, Wayne Taylor Racing and all the fans.”
