2025 GTD SEBRING 12 HOUR POST RACE REPORT

The Wayne Taylor Racing No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 team returned on track for the second race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Full season co-driver Trent Hindman started from 19th on the GTD grid after difficult qualifying session. For Hindman, it was all about progression forward, but an early issue with the brakes forced the No. 45 team to evaluate the issue pitting in a closed pit. Briefly surveying the status of the problem, No. 45 crew sent Hindman back out on track although the team lost a lap to the leader.

During a long caution after an hour in, Hindman swapped places with IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup co-driver, Graham Doyle. Shortly after identifying a solution to their early mechanical issue, the WTR Lamborghini crew were able repair the issue for the brakes and change brake pads during their full-service pit stop. In his sophomore Twelve Hours of Sebring, Doyle navigated a busy track with multiple cautions. With a lucky caution, the team were able to get back on the same lap as the GTD leader. A quarter of the way complete, Danny Formal took over for Doyle and began working to click off positions with a solid time of green flag running on track. Under the seven hours-to-go mark, the No. 45 team were prepared for a scheduled pit stop as Formal experienced a cut tire and slowly brought the chrome Lamborghini GTD to pit lane.

Hindman then returned back to the helm of the No. 45 and battled a difficult handling race car while navigating traffic throughout the 3.74-mile road course. Trouble on a pit stop and the challenging car and track conditions, saw the No. 45 Lamborghini fall laps down on track. Doyle once again climbed back into the drivers as the iconic endurance race ran a lengthy number of hours caution-free and was able to complete his mandatory drive time as dusk began to set on Sebring International Raceway.

Although the No. 45 GTD team incurred a multi-lap deficit to the GTD leader, that did not disrupt the team’s goal to chip away at those laps as a caution fell a little over three hours remaining. With Formal back at the wheel, the full season co-driver continued their pursuit to earn laps back while surviving the initial transition into nighttime racing.

Hindman took over with a little under two hours remaining to finish out the night. Despite not able to earn back any laps lost, Hindman used the final hours of Sebring to learn more about the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 with valuable track time. With a little bit of on-track attrition, Hindman brought home the No. 45 Lamborghini GTD in 14th.

“I am proud of everyone on the Lamborghini GTD program,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “With DEX Imaging and three really good drivers, they showed their potential. Graham really stepped up in LST and GTD. We had some issues with the Lamborghini that were a little bit out of our control, but we will go back and see if we can get it sorted out before the next race.”

It’s a full switch of racing modes for the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 as they head to the first sprint race of the 2025 IMSA season on the streets of Long Beach on April 10-12, 2025.

Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “The whole weekend has been character building to say the least. Very grateful for our Wayne Taylor Racing No. 45 DEX team that we have around us. I don’t think we would have even had a real sniff thinking about a race result if it weren’t for them and their effort throughout the week. So, it’s just a shame that we couldn’t repay the effort with a good result. I have been in these situations before and all I can say is for a season-long outlook, these bad days, in my opinion, what win championships. So, you scrape and you claw and you do everything you do to collect point that you can, even when the day looks totally bleak. Because those extra points that you get yourself today will pay dividends come Road Atlanta and maybe have a championship on the line. We just need to think bigger picture and move on to Long Beach.”

Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Well, Twelve Hours of Sebring is over. The GTD side has been kind of a rollercoaster; I had a small problem in Practice 1. The WTR guys really worked hard on the car to get it back out in Practice 3, so we decided to skip Practice 2 to get the car 100% ready for the race. We proved that now that the car was 100% that what we could accomplish. A few little things that were out of our control happened, but it is racing. The Twelve Hours of Sebring everyone knows it's harder than the 24 Hours of Daytona; how hard it is on the equipment, on the driver, on everyone. So proud of this team! We completed the Twelve Hours of Sebring and Wayne Taylor Racing never gave up. Everyone in Lamborghini, all the mechanics, all the engineers all the drivers, Graham did a fantastic job - the best I’ve seen him drive – and Trent always a rockstar. Now we go on the west coast tour with two sprint races so excited for that next month and we'll give it our all.”

Graham Doyle, IMEC co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Probably not the day we were looking for, but we made the best of it for sure. It was definitely a challenging week for the whole team. We started off with not the best situation having to fix up the car and only getting out for about one practice session the entire weekend. But you know we capitalized on everything. We made it through the entire 12-hour race which is a step up from last year we didn't quite finish it. It showed the resilience of our team. So, at the end we can look at it either from a positive or a negative and I’m going to look at it from a positive and move forward to the next enduro.”
