Wayne Taylor Racing heads to upstate New York for the third round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. Full season co-drivers Trent Hindman and Danny Formal will be joined again by IMEC co-driver Graham Doyle in the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 to tackle the six-hour endurance event.
After a string of sprint races, the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 returns to the endurance format alongside a packed GTD field of 21 entrants. In their second full-season effort in the GTD class, Wayne Taylor Racing will take on the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course with last year’s experience to guide them.
The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini team finished as the top Lamborghini last year in 15th, and Wayne Taylor Racing aims to continue this momentum forward this weekend. Both Formal and Doyle will again perform double-duty at Watkins Glen, competing in both their GTD and Lamborghini Super Trofeo entries.
“Looking forward to Watkins Glen,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “Obviously it has not been a season as successful as we would have liked it to be. Somethings are out of our control, but clearly the last event things started moving our way. We will have Danny, Trent and Graham back in the car for the third endurance race of the season which is always exciting. Even though the race is only six hours, it will be a hard six hours and not an easy one to win. A lot of strategy will be in play. We have a good group of guys and we are hoping for a top five.”
The Wayne Taylor Racing GTD will hit the track for practice at 11:25 a.m. ET on Friday, June 20. Qualifying will see the green flag at 2:20 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 21. The iconic Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will kick off at 12:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 22. NBC is set to broadcast the race from 12 p.m. ET to 3 p.m. ET and Peacock will broadcast full coverage from 12 p.m. ET to 6:30 p.m. ET.
Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “In my estimation, a six-hour long race event is absolutely a “sprint” in this current era of IMSA racing. With our requirement of needing three drivers per car in GTD, the ~double stint needed from each driver to complete minimum drive time certainly turns up the intensity and creates the feeling of this being an all-out sprint throughout each phase of the race. With that said, preparation does not change much from a driver’s point of view. The only outlier here at Watkins Glen could be weather, whether it be very hot/humid, brief yet intense periods of rain, etc. I would tend to believe that being prepared to respond quickly to any number of changing conditions will be key. The Six Hours of The Glen does indeed mark the halfway point for us this year. It’s no secret that the DEX/Wayne Taylor Racing No. 45 team have tremendous expectations on what we desire to accomplish, and unfortunately luck has not been on our side this season. Each race event acts as a fresh start and new opportunity to get the results we know we deserve, and in the meantime, we’ll continue to focus on the process necessary to achieve the targeted results.”
Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “The Six of the Glen at Watkins Glen – my favorite track in North America. I’m super excited to get back in the No. 45 GTD. This time back with Graham Doyle and Trent Hindman. The WTR guys have been working overtime since Laguna Seca. We showed some good pace, but an unfortunate drive-through penalty took a top four position away. Again, it’s my favorite track in North America and it’s a very fast racetrack. Hopefully we can get the WTR boys and girls their first podium in our program’s history.”
Graham Doyle, IMEC co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Watkins Glen is always a highlight on the calendar, and while it’s classified as an endurance race, six hours here feels like a sprint race. Back at the shop, the entire WTR crew has been working overtime to make sure we will have the best car to fight at the front and fair for our first podium of the season. Our goal is to maintain the momentum from Laguna and continue to fight at the front of the field. We’ve put in the work during the break and feel ready to take on whatever the weekend throws at us.”
