2025 GTD VIRGINIA INTL RACEWAY PRE RACE REPORT

As the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship begins to wind down, the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 team are running on a stretch of momentum. The No. 45 Lamborghini team has scored two top five results in their last two sprint races and hope to continue that success into their final two-hour, 40-minute race at VIRginia International Raceway.

The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is the only standalone GT event on the IMSA schedule with GTD PRO and GTD categories occupying the 3.27-mile road course. Danny Formal and Trent Hindman will handle the driving duties in the black and chrome No. 45 Lamborghini GTD. Formal has competed many times at VIR, but only once in GTD competition, finishing 11th in 2024. Hindman has found success on many occasions at VIR, never finishing outside the top ten and twice on the podium. With their recent win at CTMP and a fifth place at Road America, Hindman and Formal stand within the top ten of the GTD points standings with three events to go.

“I am eager to see how our GTD team will contend at VIR,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “They certainly have momentum on their side with the win at Mosport and a top five at Road America. I have a lot of faith in the crew and drivers on this program, and the goal is to continue our recent success this weekend.”

Formal, Hindman and the No. 45 Lamborghini GTD team will begin their on-track preparations on Friday, August 22, with practice at 3:05 p.m. ET. Saturday, August 23, will see another practice session at 10:34 a.m. ET followed by qualifying at 4:55 p.m. ET that afternoon. The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR will go green at 2:10 p.m. ET with all two hours, 40-minutes broadcast on USA Network.

Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Our victory at CTMP provided the validation we needed that we are indeed doing all of the right things as a team. This was apparent at Road America, where we rolled off the truck with a great car and were able to focus on the smaller details to maximize our car’s performance. The fifth-place result earned was a strong one, especially among the chaos of that particular race, but we always are looking for more. VIR is a WTR team favorite and also a track that Danny and I have found success at in the past. I think we are all very much looking forward to continuing this momentum we have built into the weekend with the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini.”

Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “VIR up next, our final sprint race of the year. Coming off a top five at Road America and a win in Canada, momentum is very strong in the team. We have got this No. 45 Lamborghini in a great window right now. I’m so grateful to be part of this Wayne Taylor Racing No. 45 DEX Lamborghini group. It’s been a fantastic second half of my season. VIR is my favorite track in not just North America, but in the world. It is such high commitment. The key will to survive the will be with the least amount of tire degradation over a stint. The WTR team has been working extremely hard to get the car in an even better window. I am super exited to get going!”
