2025 LST ROAD AMERICA POST RACE REPORT

Another successful and trophy-filled weekend for the Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo stable saw each pairing leave Road America with at least one podium appearance. With three wins, including a weekend sweep by Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson overall, and two additional podiums, WTR will head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway next month with prime championship positionings.

With a tight PRO championship title on the line, Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson entered the Road America weekend eager to return to victory lane to keep their championship hopes alive – and they did just that! A “perfect” weekend saw the pair start from pole position for both races then translate straight to the top step of the podium. Race 1 was smooth sailing for the pair as Formal built an impressive gap on track before Ericsson took over to finish the day, grabbing the pair’s third overall win of the year. Starting Race 2, Ericsson avoided any incidents on the start was ready to continue their momentum. As the field came to the restart on after the opening lap caution, No. 1 PRO was served a 10-second post-race time penalty for their restart. Once Formal took over in the No. 1 Lamborghini, the Costa Rican driver put his head down, nearly driving qualifying laps around the 4.048-mile road course to build a gap that made up for their post-race penalty. With a stellar performance by Formal, he brought home the No. 1 in P1 to collect the victory, even with the time-penalty.

Entering the weekend second in the PRO championship, Nick Persing was ready to return to racing action in hopes of closing the gap to the points leaders. Unfortunately, with a red-flagged Race 1 qualifying mixed with mechanical troubles, Persing had to start Race 1 from the rear of the field. Aiming to push forward on the grid, Persing had made up half of the spots to the PRO leaders by the time pit window opened in Race 1. Keeping his nose clean to finish out Race 1, Persing collected a top five result with crucial championship points. For Race 2, Persing started second in PRO and on the front row ready to contend for the win. Persing slotted in line behind his No. 1 PRO teammates as the green flag flew. Aiming to take the overcut pit stop, Persing came out from his mandatory pit stop in the top five but that wasn’t all. Persing challenged his way forward to fourth place and was able to get within podium position as a competitor in front of his No. 8 Lamborghini received a post-race penalty, placing the Persing on third step of the podium to finish Race 2.

In a cameo appearance at Road America, Trent Hindman and Jackson Lee piloted the No. 69 PRO|AM entry for the LSTNA doubleheader. In Race 1, Hindman returned with his veteran Super Trofeo form, grabbing pole position for the first race. Building a dominant lead, Hindman handed over the No. 69 PRO|AM machine to Lee in prime position. Capitalizing on a primarily green flag race, Lee was able to extend the gap that Hindman had built to bring home the PRO|AM class victory. The win in Saturday’s Race 1 with an over 20-second gap was Lee’s first career Lamborghini Super Trofeo victory. For Sunday’s Race 2, Lee started the morning race from fourth in class, ready to extend the momentum from Saturday. The opening lap for Race 2 saw multiple on track incidents and unfortunately, the No. 60 PRO|AM became bystanders on track, accruing damage that forced a mechanical issue and early end to their dominant weekend.

As the AM class championship leaders, Glenn McGee and Graham Doyle were keen to extend their championship lead entering Rounds 7 and 8 at Road America. With a third place start from a shortened qualifying for Race 1, Doyle was eager to make moves on the start, but experienced mechanical troubles mixed with contact, shuffled the No. 10 AM Lamborghini back in the running order. With minimal cautions, McGee took over for Doyle and it was all about survival and collecting key points for their championship to finish Race 1. Starting on pole position in Race 2, McGee and Doyle were ready to rebound on Race 2. A long caution to open Race 2 nearing the required pit window made It tough for McGee to build a gap in the AM class before handing over the duties to Doyle. Aiming to try to grab another win, Doyle was pushing hard on track but the second half of the 50-minute race ran green, and the 19-year-old brought back second place to finish the day.

The Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo stable will head to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway next month to finish out their final rounds of the North America championship on domestic soil.

Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo Driver Quotes

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO: “Wow! This is my 25th win in the PRO category in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. This was by far my favorite race. Hampus got a penalty for the restart, unfortunately, and we had to get a 10-second lead. We were fighting for the win there at the end against the 29 car. Every lap, I had to push as hard as I could to keep that lead, that gap. We are a lot closer now in the championship which is exciting as we go into Indy. Thanks so much to Hampus and Wayne Taylor Racing. The car was incredible, and I am so grateful.”

Hampus Ericsson, No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO: “With so many yellows at the start today, it was everything to keep the car in good shape and hand it off to Danny to do the work. And he did. It was probably the best drive I have ever seen anyone do. I am so, so impressed with Danny today. He’s like a different breed. I am so happy to get the win and to get the double for the weekend. This is so big for our championship. It means everything. I told myself, when I got out of the car and was told I got a 10-second penalty, if we win this race, I am going to start believing in God. So, there you have it.”

Nick Persing, No. 8 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO: “This was a good weekend. You know it has been a good year when you are not happy with a P5 or P3. I wish I could have grabbed a few more points today, but overall, I am happy with the podium today and the P5 result yesterday. The cars are so fast, and it is hard to set up a pass. I am so happy to come in P3 today and yesterday having to start the race dead last and end up P5, I am almost prouder of that result than the podium today. That was a mega drive! We will keep our heads down and hopefully get some more wins in Indy.”

Trent Hindman, No. 69 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO|AM: “Overall quite a successful weekend being back in Super Trofeo and with Jackson. It is a pleasure to be back in the series after quite some time away. I forgot how much a blessing it is to drive these cars and race them. Unfortunate what happened today in Race 2, but we made a lot of progress throughout the weekend and got a race win, which we certainly can’t complain about. Thanks to the Wayne Taylor Racing team and Jackson for all their hard work and making it a successful weekend.”

Jackson Lee, No. 69 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO|AM: “Race 1, I couldn’t have been happier with our result. It was very refreshing to come into a new team and learn the new program at a track I have not been to in a few years. And then to pull off a win. Driving next to Trent and be able to learn from him as well as Wayne Taylor Racing has been great. Unfortunately, we were not able to carry that momentum into Race 2 due to the early incident that ended our day early. We will keep pushing and hopefully we can put something together for Indy.”

Graham Doyle, No. 10 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo AM: “Yesterday’s race was fairly disappointing to have an issue on Lap 1, coupled with the contact that threw the wheel out of alignment. To struggle with that all race, we knew we had to continue for the championship which is what is foremost on my and Glenn’s minds. We ended up P6 there and today was about recovery. Glenn was on pole and had an awesome stint. I wasn’t able to capitalize on the car as I had hoped. I know we had a better car under us, but to finish P2 brings good points for the Championship.”

Glenn McGee, No. 10 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo AM: "The weekend didn’t start off the best as we did have a mechanical issue and couldn’t really solution it until after Race 1. That kind of set us back a bit. Without it, I think it would have been an even better weekend. We had to recover points from Race 1. Race 2, I had a better start but there was so much yellow, I couldn’t pull the gap. We really got held up on my in-lap and that destroyed my entry and didn’t give Graham much time to settle in with this car, but his pace was good at the end, and we held off our main rival in the championship, so we were ahead in the end.”
