2025 LST ROUND 1 AT SEBRING POST RACE REPORT

The Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) Lamborghini Super Trofeo (LST) team opened the 2025 North America Championship with a stellar performance at Sebring International Raceway, earning a total of five wins on the weekend across three classes: PRO, PRO|AM and AM.

Opening the 2025 LST season, Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson paired up in the No. 1 WTR Lamborghini for the first time and started off the season in dominating fashion. In the doubleheader qualifying, the pair swept pole positions for both races. For Thursday’s Race 1, Formal started off with an impressive stint in the No. 1 WTR Lamborghini, leading his entire time on track before the mandatory pit stop and driver change to co-driver Ericsson. As Ericsson climbed behind the wheel, the Swedish driver picked right off from where his teammate left off, sailing to the checkered flag and earning his first LST North America victory in his U.S. racing debut. Starting from pole position in Race 2, Ericsson went on to lead the field through to the pit window open with a solid gap to hand his No. 1 Lamborghini over to Formal in prime position. A late-race caution packed the field back up together and went back racing with under seven minutes remaining, but Formal held onto his lead. Despite ending Race 2 under caution, it was a perfect weekend for Formal and Ericsson as they led every on-track LST session.

Nick Persing entered the 2025 LST Championship in his first as a solo PRO class driver. The Californian navigated condensed qualifying sessions to start within the top four of the PRO class grid for the duo of 50-minute races. In Race 1, Persing navigated the 3.74-mile road course with his sights set to the move his way into podium contention. With a competitive PRO class and a primarily green flag race, Persing landed fourth for PRO in his season opening event. In Friday’s Race 2, Persing shared the front row alongside his WTR teammate and was eager to capitalize on his qualifying position. All things looked positive for Persing, until a false start penalty resulting in a +10-second time addition to his finishing position spoiled the positive day for the No. 8 driver. Persing tallied two top five results to round out the weekend at Sebring International Raceway.

New to the PRO|AM category in the LST North America Championship, Anthony McIntosh and Brendon Leitch entered the Sebring doubleheader weekend ready to pick up from their 2024 World Finals – and they did just that. Despite both qualifying sessions being shortened due to red flags, the No. 69 WTR Lamborghini pairing knew that they had the pace coming into the first race. McIntosh quickly capitalized on their speed on track before handing over the control to Leitch as they found themselves cycled to the lead of the PRO|AM category. From there, it was at the control of Leitch who built a solid gap to the competition and brought home the class win for Race 1. Starting off Race 2 from the second position in PRO|AM, Leitch kept the sights of the class leader throughout the first half of the 50-minute race before giving the control to McIntosh to finish. With a late yellow flag, McIntosh found himself within a tenth of the PRO|AM leader but unfortunately made contact with the barrier in the closing minutes of Race 2.

Competing as co-drivers for the first time, Glenn McGee and Graham Doyle were ready to tackle the opening rounds at Sebring with power and poise. In the doubleheader qualifying, Doyle grabbed his first AM class pole position for Race 1. Entering Race 1, Doyle and McGee knew the mission and the pair flowed into their rhythm as the 50-minute race played out. With key pit stop and driver change strategy, the No. 10 WTR Lamborghini maintained it’s starting position to earn the top step of the AM class podium for Race 1. After a dominating performance in Race 1, McGee tackled the first half of Friday’s Race 2 and propelled himself and the No. 10 team up into podium contention before the mandatory pit stop and driver change to Doyle. As the second half of Race 2 ticked away, Doyle had the No. 10 in the lead for the AM class and was able to build a gap and bring home back-to-back AM wins to end a successful opening weekend in LSTNA.

The Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo team head next to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the next doubleheader on May 10-11, 2025.

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO: “What a weekend to start the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship with Wayne Taylor Racing. The No. 1 Lamborghini rolled off the trailer and was just phenomenal. Hampus said it earlier, we led every on-track session, so can’t really get any better than that, I’m so thankful to the WTR team. I had a big mishap in yesterday in GTD and everyone gave me so much support. Hampus ‘first time racing in America and he performed phenomenal, and I am so grateful to share the car with him. Hopefully many more wins to come.”

Hampus Ericsson,No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO: “We had a great weekend! The Wayne Taylor Racing team has done a mega job. It’s my first weekend in American racing and everyone has welcomed me with big arms. They pushed me to the max limit. We did really well in winning both races, pole positions and fastest laps. I think we executed the whole weekend perfectly and we will keep the momentum for Laguna Seca.”

Nick Persing, No. 8 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO: “Good weekend overall. We had the pace for podium. I think we were probably the second fastest car this weekend, but unfortunately, I made a couple mistakes that prevented us from getting there in the end. I’ll go home and work on those before Laguna Seca and I think we will definitely be able to take home some podiums. Need to work on a few things, but overall, it was a good weekend.”

Brendon Leitch, No. 69 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO|AM: “It has been an interesting first weekend. It was awesome to come away with the win in Race 1. In Race 2, Tony was involved in an incident and unfortunately, DNF’d two laps from the finish. Looking forward to going out for the next round of the LST Championship in Laguna Seca and having a fresh start.”

Graham Doyle, No. 10 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo AM: “I started on pole position yesterday and Glenn drove a flawless second stint and won the race for us. Today, Glenn hustled us up to the front and I was able to hop in and run it to the end for the win. A perfect weekend for us! I couldn’t have imagined a better start to our season. Last year, I had one podium and this year I’ve started off with two wins in Lamborghini Super Trofeo – I couldn’t ask for more.”

Glenn McGee, No. 10 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo AM: “Great weekend for us in the No. 10 DEX Imaging Lamborghini Super Trofeo. We came in here strong. Graham and I trained quite a bit, tested with the team and came in here ready to win. I think we even surprised ourselves at our pace. Race 1 was great. Graham did a great start. The track was really hot. I got in the second stint and struggled with the tires, but we still managed to pull out a gap and win by a sizable lead. Race 2 was tougher – the track was much hotter. I started and we made light contact early on to get up to second. That knocked our tow out, so we had understeer this whole race. When I gave the car to Graham, he had a tough car to deal with. He did a great job on his out laps and managed to take the lead and the overall win. That’s two wins. We can’t start off the year better than this. I am really proud of my teammate and the entire WTR team.”
