To complete the end of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo season, Wayne Taylor Racing has earned another World Finals Championship title. Following the doubleheader with all LST North America, Europe and Asia competitors, the No. 101 Lamborghini duo of Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson collected their first World Finals title, the second for Wayne Taylor Racing (first title since 2017).
Entering the World Finals as the LST North America PRO Champions, Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson were eager to show their speed against the global competition in Misano. The doubleheader started off strong as Formal claimed pole position for the first race. In World Finals Race 1, Formal capitalized on the track position in the No. 101 and led for first half of the 50 minutes. At the mandatory pit stop, Ericsson took over in the No. 101 but slid a few positions back. Never giving up on the pursuit for the lead, Ericsson attempted to take over the lead on the last lap, but contact from a competitor pushed the No. 101 wide, dropping them back to finish fifth. Refocused for the finale of the season on Sunday, Ericsson knew there was a job to get done and settled in for his stint. As the pit window opened, the No. 101 team opted for a “undercut” strategy to pit as early as possible versus the PRO leaders. Once Formal took over in the No. 101, the Costa Rican driver began closing the gap to the front runners. With ten minutes remaining, Formal made a pass in Turn 11 to take the lead. Formal soared to victory and that impressive win handed Formal, Ericsson and Wayne Taylor Racing World Finals Championship honors.
After winning the LST North America finale, Nick Persing headed into the World Finals with momentum on his side. Persing qualified in the No. 108 in top ten of the PRO class for both doubleheaders. Ready to tackle the global competition in World Finals Race 1, Persing was eager to move forward but a spin on the start saw the No. 108 shuffled back in the running order, but still with plenty of time to regain track position. Seeking to move forward after the Lap 1 spin, Persing pitted early in the pit window. For the remainder of Race 1, it was all about passing for as many positions on track as the No. 108 received a post-race time penalty for their pit stop being too short, leading to a 20th-place result. In the second race of the World Finals, Persing worked to climb up the leaderboard. Running steady in the top 12 positions on track, Persing then brought the No. 108 to pit lane for the mandatory stop. Returning back on track from his pit stop, Persing found himself in the top 10 for the second half of the 50-minute race. Continuing to put pressure and make passes on track for that second stint, Persing crossed the finish line in fifth overall, fourth in the PRO class.
Ready to showcase their skills as the AM North America Drivers’ Champions on the World Finals stage, Graham Doyle and Glenn McGee were elevated up to the PRO|AM classification for the World Finals doubleheader. In Race 1, the No. 110 pairing knew they had the challenge of new and familiar class competitors. For their first PRO|AM race, McGee had an impressive qualifying effort to start fourth in the class and maintained that position throughout his stint. As the sun was setting over Misano, Doyle now in control of the No. 110 focused on keeping track position and clean air through the finish. As the checkered flag flew, Doyle and McGee tallied a top ten finish in their first PRO|AM event. Race 2 was another opportunity to work their way forward, but Doyle had contact on the restart early in the race that saw the No. 110 DEX Imaging ST receive damage to the rear of the car, ending their day.
“The North America PRO, AM, Team and Dealer Championships and now, the World Finals Champions as well!” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “I am ecstatic with this unbelievable result and can’t say enough about this team, all of the drivers and everyone associated with WTR. Today was a win for all our drivers and crew. They all pitched in to make this happen and I am just so proud to be a part of it. It was a great way to end the season. The fact that we have won it twice as a U.S. team, makes it even more special for all of us. I really am at a loss at what to say. It is something you dream about.”
“Wow! Amazing,” said Travis Houge, VP|General Manager, Wayne Taylor Racing. “It is about the only word I can think of! Watching what this team and group drivers has done this year. Winning the World Finals is something that is tough. It is all the competitors across the globe trying to win one race and to watch what our guys did, watch what our whole team did - this is a big win for Wayne Taylor Racing. It is a big win for all of our partners. It's a big win for drivers and everybody. To take the title home to North America for another 12 months now – and that's the title for another 12 months - I couldn't be more happy with what our drivers and team have done. To culminate this with a World Finals win is absolutely amazing and impressive.”
Ending the 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo season, Wayne Taylor Racing collected a total of five championships (PRO Drivers’, AM Drivers’, World Finals, Team and Dealership) and 21 wins – one of the most successful years as the team celebrates ten years since joining the series in 2015.
Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo Driver Quotes
Danny Formal, No. 1 (101) Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo
“We are the World Champions! What a weekend! What a race! I can’t thank this team enough. The car was just on auto pilot. Total rocket ship. Fastest lap on the last lap. I was just on rails. Hampus gave me a great car. I got a couple track limits early on trying to push as hard as I could, so I had to be really precise on the passing. The car was so good in Turn 10, so I could take my time and do all the passing there. Thank you, Wayne Taylor Racing. This is for you guys! First World Championship for Costa Rica. First World Championship for the WTR since 2017. It was Wayne Taylor Racing back then, it is Wayne Taylor Racing today. Let’s go!”
Hampus Ericsson, No. 1 (101) Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo
“World Champions me and Danny! It feels amazing, especially after yesterday when we had a difficulties on the final lap. I should have won it but that's racing sometimes. To come back this strong is amazing, the car was on rails all week. I can’t thank the team enough – Danny, Wayne Taylor Racing, everyone. Without them, none of this is possible. It has been an awesome season. Thanks so much to the team. This is everything.”
Nick Persing, No. 8 (108) Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo
"Huge congratulations to the team! I’m so proud of them and all the hard work they put into this season and being able to win the World Finals. I was glad I was just able to be a part of it. Watching them stand up on the podium was a huge inspiration and hopefully one day I can join them up there."
Graham Doyle, No. 10 (110) Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo
“For Glenn and me, the World Finals was a true test. We struggled in Race 1 and got taken out early in Race 2. While it wasn’t our weekend, for the team, it was an amazing success. I’m so proud of the No. 1 car (No. 101) and the whole Wayne Taylor Racing team on achieving the win in the World Finals.”
Glenn McGee, No. 10 (110) Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo
“Graham and I had an amazing year, winning the Northam America AM championship, and we went into the Pro-Am World Championship race ready to fight at full attack. We had a great start Race1, moving up positions every corner. Unfortunately, a competitor hit us, spun us around, but we continued to fight and move up the field. Graham was continuing our run up the field; however, a developing brake issue stifled our progress. Race 2, we were ready to make some moves, but were taken out early by an optimistic competitor. In the end I was stoked to race with such an amazing team, and to share in the celebration for WTR and in Danny and Hampus taking home the World Title! They drove amazing all year long and it was great to share in their celebration .”
