Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) officially kicks off the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for its third consecutive season competing in the GTD class with the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Prior to race weekend, the team took part in six on-track testing sessions at the annual Roar Before the Rolex 24.
The driver stable featuring the full season pairing of Trent Hindman and Danny Formal, endurance co-driver Graham Doyle, and Indianapolis 500 and Rolex 24 co-driver, Marcus Ericsson, got situated in the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 during the Roar weekend. After sorting through their testing checklists, the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini team posted their fastest lap time of 01:47.835 and closed out with a total of 203 laps around Daytona International Speedway.
“I’m excited at how smoothly the GTD operation ran this weekend and pleasantly surprised how competitive we are,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Co-Owner. “Really impressive drives by all the drivers. Graham Doyle has taken such a huge leap forward. Having Marcus on board with us and the combination with Trent, Graham and Danny, it is the perfect set up. I am really looking forward to the race. It is so humbling to see that we have a competitive GTD car and two GTP cars going into next weekend’s race.”
The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini crew will take part in one more practice session on the morning of Thursday, January 22, before they are set to qualify for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Qualifying for the GTD team is set to take place at 2:10 p.m. ET on Thursday with live streaming available on Peacock. The IMSA crown jewel will begin at 1:40 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 24, as the team takes to the track for the 64th Running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. All 24 hours of action-packed racing will be broadcast on Peacock, with NBC hosting coverage of the first hour.
Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “The Roar is always a tricky event because so many people are on varying plans and it reinforces the focus on yourself and your equipment. We feel we have our No. 45 DEX Lamborghini in a really good window here. We are happy with how it drives and how we think it is going to drive over 24 hours. We had a pretty wide range of weather conditions over the weekend and it looks to be a bit more consistent next week, but it’s good to know that we have a race car that is very comfortable for all of us - no matter what the weather throws. The team’s functioning well, everyone is communicating really well. Everything is looking good. We just have to keep doing what we are doing as a team.”
Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “A very good weekend at the Roar Before the Rolex 24. I don’t where we stacked up but the car is in a great window, very easy to drive. We tested a lot of things this weekend and got all the drivers a good amount of time. We are excited for the Rolex 24. The team at Wayne Taylor Racing have given us a great platform and I am super excited to get going for race week. Marcus, Trent, Graham and I, are messing great together. Now, we do some driver changes, systems checks to get ready for next weekend and give it our all.”
Graham Doyle, IMEC co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “With the Roar complete, we are all quite happy. To look back on the weekend, it was great to start working with Marcus and exciting to have someone of his stature in the DEX Lamborghini car as an Indianapolis 500 winner, so it’s amazing working alongside him and learning from him as well as with Danny and Trent for a second year. Altogether, a great weekend for the team. We got through a lot of important things and important data was found. I think we are in a good place to come back on race weekend and hopefully fight for a Rolex.”
Marcus Ericsson, Rolex 24 co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “It was a really good weekend. All four drivers got plenty of laps and for me, it’s about learning this car. I’ve been to this track a few times but in the GTP cars, so it’s a bit of a learning curve there adapting to the GTD car. But the Wayne Taylor Racing DEX Lamborghini team has been doing a really great job. My co-drivers have really been helping and been really fun working with all three of them. I feel like we are really well prepared and we have a fast car, so I can’t wait to go racing.”
