Danny Formal, Trent Hindman, Graham Doyle, Marcus Ericsson and the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 of Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) officially opened the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the series’ crown jewel event – the Rolex 24 at Daytona. After the round the clock battle, the team finished eighth in class.
Starting from 12th, full season co-driver Trent Hindman saw the green flag wave for the iconic around the clock event. Hindman remained within the top half of the GTD field as a slew of cautions fell during his opening stint. Next up in the No. 45 GTD, was the lineup’s endurance co-driver, Graham Doyle, to handle his first stint. With temperatures at the hottest of the weekend, Doyle battled adapting the car to the warmer conditions and saving energy, tires and remaining on the lead lap. Continuing to cycle through the driver stable, Danny Formal hopped inside the cockpit as the sun began to set. Formal and the No. 45 Lamborghini were a match made in heaven as the car came alive with pace and balance. Formal quickly worked his way up from 18th to third as the day turned to night.
Following Formal’s impressive drivde forward, it was a rotation from Doyle and Hindman before midnight and the team were pushing hard to earn a lap back after falling down due to cautions paired with the team’s planned pit sequence. Once Hindman was in the car for his second cycle of stints at just shy of 1 a.m. ET, the field went under caution for limited visibility due to fog. The weather conditions continued to intensify and led to the track being down for a yellow flag for approximately six-and-a-half hours. In the longest caution of Rolex 24 at Daytona history, the WTR GTD team went into strategy mode in balancing pit stops and driver changes amongst Formal, Hindman and Ericsson, for the lengthy period.
The field finally saw the green flag wave again under less foggy conditions after 7 a.m. ET. Despite going a total of two laps down to the GTD leader, the No. 45 worked their way back onto the lead lap into the final hours as the No. 45 came into contention with the GTD leaders – even leading a handful of laps during the pitstop sequences. Hindman handed over the reins from the top ten to Formal to finish out the final two-and-a-half hours. The No. 45 WTR GTD team tried a strategy to push to the end on one-less pitstop but the lucky yellow flag that they needed never came. As the checkered flag flew, the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 tallied an eighth-place finish.
“Another great race by the No. 45 DEX GTD team,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Co-Owner. “They led a few laps, fought their way back from being two laps down and looked like they were on their way to a podium when they got unlucky needing a yellow. Danny, Trent, Graham and Marcus did a great job today and the team should be very proud.”
The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 team will continue their endurance racing streak as in a little over a month is the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 21, 2026.
Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “I think there was a lot of optimism on our side coming off the Roar and seeing the potential of the car, but Daytona is Daytona in the sense that you don’t really know what you have until you go racing. Practice and Qualifying were not as ideal as they could’ve been, but still we had a pulse of where we were at and we knew it was going to be a hard fight. Execution was everything, and I think we executed a very good race. Definitely a better start in terms of a championship effort than last year, so we will certainly take that, but to take the level of performance that we had in the car and get this result out of it, I think everyone at Wayne Taylor Racing should be really proud of themselves. I am certainly proud to be a part of this team!”
Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2:
“The Rolex 24 hours of Daytona are done; what a race. A really difficult outcome for a great team. We never gave up, we pushed through the night, we were about two laps down for a while, and we made our laps back. Obviously, with the longest caution in the history of IMSA and the Rolex 24, we were a lap down and the guys did a fantastic strategy to regain our lap. Trent did a fantastic job, Marcus did great, and Graham did an incredible fuel and energy save for one of his stints. We felt pretty satisfied with the car overnight, and we knew the car doesn’t like hot weather, but the guys never gave up and we kept on digging. P8 after last year's heartbreak, this is a win for us. Obviously it’s not what we wanted and this team’s not satisfied until we win, but it’s racing and we’ll come back stronger in Sebring.”
Graham Doyle, IMEC co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2:
“We started P12 and were able to finish P8 after the craziest 24 I’ve ever seen. From losing basically the entire night to having to gain two laps back this morning. The whole team did an excellent job, it was flawless every time we came in the pits, flawless execution throughout the Roar and Rolex week, which really set us up for success. I really think we gave it our all, and did our best with what our car can do today. We are really excited to keep going and I think we have a great idea of what we can do towards Sebring to hopefully fight to end up on the podium.”
Marcus Ericsson, Rolex 24 co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “It’s been a fantastic experience for me to be part of Wayne Taylor Racing again, and this group on the 45 car has been a lot of fun. My teammates Graham, Trent, and Danny have been fantastic to work with and I’ve learned a lot. I’m still new to GT racing, so it’s been a big learning curve for me. Obviously not the result that we wanted, but everyone was performing really well this month, so I’m really proud of that. It’s been a ton of fun, and I hope we can be back here again!”
