American Ricky Taylor, who co-drove to a LM-GTE class podium finish with Pierre Ragues and Lars Viljoen in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) round Sept. 17 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, will continue with the France-based No. 50 Larbre Competition Corvette C7.R team for the remainder of the season.
“Ricky’s driving at Larbre for WEC 2016 with the LM-GTE Corvette is a new motivation for the whole team,” said Larbre Competition owner and team manager Jack Leconte. “Our relationship started three years ago at Le Mans and, since his participation, he has suited very well with the team manager, engineers, crews and teammates, especially with Pierre Ragues. This is a boost for the motivation to reach the top-three of the 2016 championship. After the Mexico round, we decided to extend Ricky’s plan with Larbre to race all remaining WEC events.”
The 27-year-old Taylor, who first competed with Larbre Competition at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014, returned to the team at this year’s WEC round Sept. 3 at Mexico City, will now finish the season at the upcoming rounds in Japan (Oct. 16), Shanghai (Nov. 6) and Bahrain (Nov. 19).
“It’s been really good, so far, with the Larbre team,” said Taylor, who with his brother and co-driver Jordan Taylor is a series-high three-time race winner in this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP for Wayne Taylor Racing . “We got a good result in Texas. I think that showed the potential of this team and this lineup. Having the additional races, I can become even more engrained in the team and we can get into a bit more of a rhythm with more continuity that will help us work together even more consistently. Going to all-new tracks is something really exciting for me, personally – another new experience and a further introduction into the World Endurance Championship. I’ve raced the same tracks in North America for a number of years now. I think I’ve almost driven at all of them, by now. So that taste of going to new tracks, which is something I really enjoyed a lot growing up, it makes it fun again to go to new tracks. I’ll do my best to make short work of learning the new tracks and hope to help Larbre achieve some more success.”
Taylor is co-driving this weekend with his brother Jordan Taylor and veteran Italian Max “The Ax” Angelelli in the 19th annual Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, the season-ending event on the 10-race IMSA WeatherTech Championship schedule for 2016.
“This action is very important for Ricky and the future of Larbre Competition,” Leconte continued. “It is a unique opportunity for Ricky to discover all the remaining WEC circuits. Larbre Competition targets to enter a Corvette C7.R for LMGTE Pro category WEC 2017. Last week, FIA published the WEC calendar which includes the exact same circuits for the nine events in 2017. All works combined between Larbre, Ricky Taylor and Pierre Ragues will show a bonus for this initiative.”
