The No. 10 SunTrust Ford Dallara of Wayne Taylor Racing will start Saturday’s Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Utah 250 from the outside of the second row after qualifying Friday afternoon at Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City.

Brian Frisselle, who along with co-driver Max Angelelli is locked in a second-place tie for the Rolex Series championship with two races to go, clocked a fast lap of 2 minutes, 36.842 seconds (102.967 mph) during today’s 15-minute qualifying session around the 4.486-mile, 24-turn road course facility in Tooele. It was good for fourth among 24 car-and-driver combinations entered for Saturday’s featured event.

The SunTrust duo is tied in the standings with No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Lexus Riley teammates Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, five points behind the championship-leading No. 99 Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley team.

Frisselle’s bid to earn a front-row starting spot in Saturday’s race was spoiled when he caught up to the back of Rojas in the Ganassi Racing machine on the very last lap of the session.

“I don’t know if we could’ve gotten onto the front row, but I do know that we have a really good car or the race,” Frisselle said. “I’ve got to hand it to the SunTrust team because they gave me the best car I’ve had for qualifying, and it was only getting better and better. That’s why that last lap would’ve been really nice to have. But, unfortunately, Memo (Rojas) and the (No.) 01 backed himself right up to me, and then went, so I had to run my lap in his dirty air. That affected the balance of our car, aerowise, and really hurt our chances of improving our lap time. It killed it. I think, for sure, I would’ve improved my time by at least two-tenths. So I know that would’ve put the 01 behind us, at the very least. For tomorrow, we’ve got a really good car, like I said. We’ll have to take advantage of that and be smart and make sure we either come away with the points lead, or be somewhere close so we can have a shot at the championship at Homestead.”

Jon Fogarty, who shares the No. 99 Gainsco Pontiac with Alex Gurney, won the pole for the fourth race in a row and the fifth time this season with a lap of 2:35.737 (103.697 mph). It was Fogarty’s 13th career pole position, tying him for the all-time Rolex Series lead with James Weaver.

“I said to Max (Angelelli) that third or fourth was probably where we would end up,” said team owner Wayne Taylor. “Unfortunately, we got stuck behind Rojas. We caught him and lost about two-tenths, there, and ended up fourth. But, as always, it only counts tomorrow. We’ve got a good car. We just have to concentrate on tomorrow. It’s all about tomorrow. At this point, the (No.) 99 car’s obviously really fast. We just need to do the best we can at this race and see where we come out in the points before we go to the last one (at Homestead).”

3. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (No. 01 Lexus Riley) with Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas (2:36.675 at 103.078 mph)

4. SunTrust Racing (No. 10 Ford Dallara) with Brian Frisselle and Max Angelelli (2:36.842 at 102.967 mph)

5. AIM Autosport (No. 61 Ford Riley) with Mark Wilkins and Burt Frisselle (2:37.866 at 102.299 mph)
